Talara Refinery

The NRT is the most important energy project in the country: 16 process units, 5 packages of auxiliary units and complementary services, 2 liquid cargo docks and 125 storage tanks and a modern accredited laboratory that provides results with international validity. This makes it one of the most important deep conversion refineries in Latin America, which will reduce the sulfur content to less than 50 parts per million (ppm), contributing to preserving air quality.

At the beginning of the last century, the country’s first crude oil refinery was installed in Talara, a coastal province in the department of Piura. The desert and the sea of Talara keep sites that the ancient Peruvians called “cope”, a kind of pitch much appreciated by the Spaniards who conquered the Tahuantinsuyo. This wealth developed to this city, in the 20TH century, in one of the most important centers of industrial exploitation of oil from the Peru.

The Refinery was a pioneer in the country, with a medium conversion refining scheme, typical of the seventies, which despite being managed very efficiently, requires increasing its capacity and complexity to improve its economy and achieve the production of clean fuels with lower sulfur content. The current refining capacity amounts to 65 thousand barrels per day (MBD).

The Talara Refinery currently carries out hydrocarbon refining and marketing activities in the national and international markets. It produces domestic LPG gas, engine gasoline, solvents, turbo A-1, diesel 2, industrial oils and export quality asphalts.
