The Iquitos Refinery is located on the left bank of the Amazon River, 14 kilometers from the city of Iquitos, capital of the province of Maynas, in the department of Loreto.

Located in the capital of the Peruvian Amazon, this refinery works in harmony with nature and with respect for native communities and local people. In addition, its fuel production boosts the development of the region and supplies places of difficult access to the jungle, thus satisfying the demand for fuel for the vehicle fleet, river transport and industry.

In the 1950s, the world required crude oil derivatives to set in motion an accelerated process of industrialization that would alleviate the wounds caused by World War II. Oil-producing countries -including Peru- saw the need to modernize their facilities to more efficiently meet national and international demands for hydrocarbons.

In this context, on October 27, 1955, the Luis F. Díaz Refinery, located in the province of Maynas, in Loreto, began operations. Since then, the Peruvian eastern market grew to such an extent that, in 1982, the new Iquitos Refinery had to be inaugurated, capable of processing ten times more crude than the old complex.

The storage capacity of the Iquitos Refinery is 553,200 barrels per day. It has advanced technology infrastructure such as the Primary Distillation Unit (with capacity for 12,000 barrels per day), the Gasoline Treatment Unit (3000 barrels per day) and the A1 Turbo Treatment Unit (1,000 barrels per day).

It also has pontoon docks to unload crude oil, cracked naphtha and biodiesel, as well as to load liquid fuels in bulk that are marketed in the Amazon region from the Yurimaguas and Pucallpa sales plants. And it has a pipeline to transfer fuels from the refinery to the Iquitos Sales Plant.
