Knowing is Loving: “Life-Saving Clicks: The Legacy of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry”
Information on the conferences
In November 2022, the series of virtual conferences entitled “Clicks that save lives: The legacy of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry” was launched by the outstanding researcher Mariángel Paolini Padrón. The conference will address the work carried out by researchers Carolyn Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and Barry Sharpless, winners of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, on the development of a revolutionary concept to produce molecules – such as drugs and new materials – quickly from small units (click chemistry), managing to bring these reactions inside living cells, with the so-called bio-orthogonal chemistry. In this conference, the importance that these works contribute to the health of humanity will be known in a simple way.

Information on the Speaker
Mariángel Paolini Padrón: Lic Química (USB), MSc Food Science (USB), Organizational Coach (MVL Consultores).
She developed her career in the area of analytical chemistry, designing methodologies for the quantification of heavy metals in naphthas through techniques such as atomic absorption and gas chromatography coupled to masses. After completing her master’s degree in food science, she worked on a line of research to develop foods aimed at vulnerable communities with special food requirements. Subsequently, she dedicated himself to the marketing area of equipment for high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Currently, she is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific content available to all people, with an emphasis on making women scientists and their contribution to society visible, as an impulse for new generations to have role models in the area of stem.
